The interior design of the all-new 2021 Subaru Levorg – and by extension next-generation Subaru WRX – has been leaked.
Japanese website Creative311.com has obtained the brochure for the new-gen Subaru Levorg and published interior photos.
Our sources in Japan tell us the sharp new Subaru Levorg is due for imminent release and is expected to make its official world premiere later this month (August 2020).
Showing off a fresh interior design that confirms a digital instrument cluster with sat-nav/guidance integration as part of the package, the Subaru Levorg interior will be replicated by its Subaru WRX cousin.
The images of the high-end Levorg reveal a flat-bottom steering wheel, alloy pedals, metal trim around the gear shifter and sports seats, all of which will be employed by the next WRX.
There’s also a large vertically-aligned touch-screen infotainment system borrowed from the new Subaru Outback. The big screen does away with most hard buttons (but keeps the important ones such as volume control).
The new 2021 Subaru WRX will make its world premiere in around April 2021 and is expected to share the same interior layout as the Levorg, which should include the re-sculpted leather sports seats and fancy LCD screens.
If the latest interior images leaked from Japan are any indication, the new Levorg and WRX will be competitive in technology terms – but will they be able to rival their peers in performance terms?
The flagship Subaru WRX STI track-attack weapon is almost certain to get a hard-core version of Subaru’s 2.4-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder boxer engine (FA24) that could go close to 300kW and 500Nm and become not only the brand’s most powerful vehicle, but also a class leader.
However, it’s not yet clear whether the Subaru WRX will get a de-tuned version of the 2.4-litre turbo engine or potentially a 220kW-ish 1.8-litre turbo-petrol boxer that’s expected to slide under the be-scooped bonnet of the Levorg.
Adding intrigue to the story there’s also been reports that Subaru is considering a return to the World Rally Championship, in which case it would need a turbo engine no bigger than 1.6-litre.
Whatever the case, the new Subaru WRX will want to belt out more power than the current car’s 2.0-litre turbo boxer (197kW/350Nm) and out-muscle the Ford Focus ST (206kW/420Nm), Hyundai i30 N (202kW/378Nm) and the upcoming Toyota Corolla GR if it wants to be taken seriously.
Stay tuned for more details.
