Nissan Australia has announced a small update for its popular X-TRAIL medium SUV portfolio, one that brings a series of grade-specific equipment upgrades in exchange for a $500 price premium.
The increase means the 2024 Nissan X-TRAIL now starts from $37,750 plus on-road costs in base ST 5-Seat 2WD guise and tops out at $58,190 for the flagship Ti-L ePower, with nine variants sandwiched in between.
Starting at the bottom and working up, the ST trim has gained proximity-based central locking, to which the ST-Ls add a wireless phone charger, wireless smartphone mirroring, a 12.3-inch infotainment interface and native satellite navigation.
The same’s true of the dolled-up N-Trek which already comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and the 12.3-inch infotainment system, meaning it gains wireless Android Auto, the wireless charging pad and proximity central locking.
It’s a similar story again with the penultimate Ti, however it also gains a hands-free tailgate – something already offered on the top-spec Ti-L which therefore only inherits the new central locking system and wireless Android Auto.
No changes have been made to the 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine (135kW/235Nm) or continuously variable transmission (CVT) powering most variants, nor the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol-electric system (157kW) offered in the ePowers.
Nissan says the MY25 update will make the X-TRAIL “even easier to live with” while strengthening the mid-range variants’ value equation.
“These MY25 updates aim to further improve the popular X-TRAIL formula, with important technology and convenience upgrades that our customers will notice and enjoy every time they take the wheel,” local marketing director Sriram Padmanabhan said.
All X-TRAILs are covered by a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty.
Nissan Australia had sold 11,878 examples this year as of August 31, making the X-TRAIL the sixth-best-seller in the increasingly crowded sub-$60,000 medium SUV segment behind the Toyota RAV4 (38,050), Mitsubishi Outlander (18,741), Mazda CX-5 (15,878), Kia Sportage (14,040) and Hyundai Tucson (12,632).
