New Vietnamese car brand bending it like Beckham

Vietnamese start-up car-maker VinFast pulls out the shock of the Paris motor show by wheeling out David Beckham as its new global ambassador.

Brand-new car Vietnamese car manufacturer VinFast not only presented the current Miss Vietnam on stage for the reveal of the company’s first two vehicles, the Lux SA2.0 SUV and LuxA2.0 sedan, but also soccer superstar David Beckham, who said creating the two vehicles was a proud achievement for the Vietnamese people.

Securing a name like David Beckham is a strong statement of intent for the young automotive brand which is looking for success in Asian markets, where Beckham is an established brand, but also Europe and further afield.

While specific details of the endorsement haven’t been announced, it is no doubt a sweet deal for Beckham whose sponsorships also include Breitling watches, H&M, Adidas and Samsung.

However, it is also a canny move for Vinfast which is no doubt hoping to access Beckham's extensive social networks, including more than 51 million followers on Instagram, where he shares content for his commercial partners.

This is not the first time a Beckham has endorsed a car brand. In 2012 Victoria Beckham worked with Land Rover, introducing a limited-edition Range Rover Evoque launched in China.
