The all-new 2025 Kia K4 hatch has made a surprise appearance at the New York motor show, with images of the five-door Cerato replacement appearing in a video presentation.
Locked in for a US launch in the second half of 2024, the new Kia K4 five-door hatchback is expected to be launched in Australia early next year alongside the sedan that made its public debut in NY overnight.
No further details of the Cerato hatch were released, but it should offer identical powertrains to the sedan.
These include a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder for the expected GT version, driving through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Entry versions will use a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder producing 110kW of power and combining with a continuously variable automatic (CVT).
To be considerably bigger than the current Cerato, the hatch should have similar dimensions to the K4 sedan, which measures 4709mm long and sets new standards for class roominess, according to Kia.
In the US, the Kia K4 features twin 12.3-inch infotainment and instrument screens and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
For the first time, Kia owners can also use a digital key via their phone to unlock and start the car.
High-grade models will get the option of heated and ventilated seats and a powerful Harman Kardon premium sound system.
Other headline features include acoustic glass in the front windscreen and new noise-reducing tyres to enhance cabin refinement.
Boosting safety, rear side airbags are now standard across the range while more sophisticated semi-autonomous driving aids include lane keep assist, forward collision avoidance and rear cross traffic alert.
Pricing was not announced at the New York show but some US commentators suggest the bigger and better-equipped Kia K4 will attract a sizeable price rise.
Full details will be released in the coming months, including Australian-market timing, specifications and pricing.
