Dodge has released a new video that suggests its wild Challenger SRT Demon will be significantly lighter than the Hellcat muscle car it's based on.
Set to be revealed at the 2017 New York motor show in April, Dodge’s resurrected Demon model is expected to at least match the Hellcat's insane 527kW/880Nm outputs but outperform it thanks to a greater power-to-weight ratio.
It's thought greater use of lightweight carbon-fibre and a stripped-out interior have helped Dodge shed the kilos, and the Demon is rumoured to weigh in around 90-100kg lighter than the Hellcat's hefty 1892kg.
To cope with the extra power the Demon is expected to get bigger brakes, a set of ultra-lightweight rims and even a wider body to accommodate a wider track front and rear.
Some even wilder rumours suggest that instead of the Hellcat’s 6.2-litre supercharged V8, the Demon could come with an even more powerful version of the SRT Viper’s 8.4-litre V10 engine.
Since the Dodge Hellcat is priced at around $US60,000, it's thought the Demon will sell for around $US80,000 there.
Sadly, there are no plans for the Demon to head to Australia.
Instead, we have to hope FCA Australia's plans to import the next-generation Challenger and Charger vehicles Down Under come to fruition after those cars go on sale in 2018.
Once again, the deal hinges on whether Dodge can establish a business case for right-hand drive versions of both muscle cars, as Ford did with its first global Mustang, which has been a sell-out success here.
