A single image of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon has appeared online ahead of its launch this week at the New York Auto Show.
The pic, claimed to be genuine, ends an extended teaser campaign previewing what could be one of the fastest, most powerful and most extreme cars in American muscle car history.
Thanks to those endless teases, much is already familiar about the wild Demon.
We know, lurking under the bonnet, is a development of the Hellcat's supercharged 6.2-litre V8.
Capable of running on 100-octane racing petrol, the Demon is expected to produce in excess of 550kW/1000Nm.
Factor in a weight saving of more than 100kg and the Dodge Demon should be able to accelerate to 100km/h in less than three seconds – 0.6sec quicker than the Hellcat - even on standard tyres.
But, use the stickier pseudo drag racing tyres fitted as standard, and there are expectations of 2.7 seconds for the 100km/h sprint.
Top speed? Rumoured to be more than 330km/h.
Dodge is yet to officially confirm any of these figures.
A new 'torque reserve launch system' is one of the secrets behind the Demon’s impressive standing start performance.
The system operates in cooperation with the Demon’s new Launch Mode.
Dodge says the torque reserve system works by closing the bypass valve on the supercharger — a process described as ‘prefilling’.
Next, the ECU alters fuel flow and spark timing to more accurately balance the engine rpm and torque.
The end result is the supercharged V8 can build boost pressure before leaving the starting line - thus reaching maximum boost far faster than the standard Hellcat.
From previous teases, we already know that the Demon will also feature a bunch of motor sport technology - including the “Air Grabber” - claimed to be largest cold air intake ever installed in a production car.
Sadly, as there are no plans for right-hand drive production, you can rule-out Australian sales for the Dodge Demon - but hopes remain high for RHD versions of the next generation Challenger due for launch next year.
In the North America, speculation has the Dodge Demon selling for around $US80,000 ($A100,000).
More will be revealed and confirmed in New York , including those power outputs and performance claims, in New York this week.
