Ford has revealed its tribute to the world’s favourite hire car at the New York motor show.
Teaming up with both legendary Mustang tuner Shelby American and hire car firm Hertz, the US manufacturer has attempted to create a modern interpretation of the 1966 Mustang GT350-H that was made famous by amateur racing drivers who would hire them, illicitly, to compete in races.
Featuring the classic black paint and gold trademark Hertz stripes, the 2016 Mustang packs some added visual menace over the standard car thanks to its vented bonnet, carbon-fibre front splitter and rear spoiler.

Extra ‘GT-H’ badges (the ‘H’ is for Hertz) have also been added on the front grille, rear bootlid and inside on the kickplates and headrests.
Under the bonnet the 306kW/530Nm 5.0-litre V8 carries over as standard but gets a new sports exhaust from Ford Performance.
The limited edition also comes with the Ford Racing Handling Pack that adds lower springs, new damps and thicker anti-roll bars.

Finally, the special GT-H models ride on special matte black 19-inch wheels.
Available with both a six-speed manual and automatic, Ford has announced it will make just 140 of the new GT-H limited edition with a selected number of those to be available for rental at selected US airports.
Sadly, it’s not likely any will be made in right-hand drive and make it Down Under.
