Land Rover's luxury brand Range Rover has released a teaser image of a mysterious new flagship SUV that will be revealed at the 2015 New York motor show on April 1.
The company asserts the new model will be "the most luxurious Range Rover ever produced" but no other details have been provided other than the photo in which it and the new Jaguar XF – which will also debut in New York – are pictured from overhead.
However, the nature of the high-end product suggests Range Rover is highly cognisant of the impending arrival of a number of lavish SUVs, including the Bentley Bentayga and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
This could be a move to get the jump on the top-shelf Rangie's erstwhile rivals, which are expected to be priced from $400,000 upwards. But the new Range Rover could be pegged around that price, because according to pricing authority RedBook.com.au the most expensive SUV currently available in Australia is the $338,000 long-wheelbase Range Rover Autobiography Black.
When contacted by motoring.com.au, Land Rover Australia issued a statement saying "no information is available on a high level Range Rover as yet" but that all would be revealed at the New York motor show.
Range Rover's new super-luxury SUV is every chance to be offered in Australia but it remains to be seen if it will beat the Bentley Bentayga, which is due here in early 2016.
The top-secret, top-spec Rangie will be unveiled alongside the new Range Rover Sport HST in New York, and possibly even the Evoque Cabriolet
