NEW YORK MOTOR SHOW: New Trailhawk and Summit models for Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeep has rolled out two new variants to broaden the appeal of the Grand Cherokee.

Ready for the beaten track, the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is described by the manufacturer as the "most capable factory-produced Grand Cherokee ever".

Just as much at home pulling up at the country club is the Grand Cherokee Summit, which features changes to the exterior styling details, a luxurious leather trimmed interior and more comfort and convenience features.

“With our new Trailhawk and Summit models, Jeep Grand Cherokee becomes even more capable and more luxurious,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA Global.

“Our Cherokee and Renegade Trailhawk models are among our fastest selling and most sought-after models, and we are following that successful formula to provide consumers even more legendary Jeep 4x4 capability for Grand Cherokee – the most awarded SUV ever.

“Our new Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit is in direct response to consumers who continue to ask for even more luxury, craftsmanship and standard premium features in a full-size SUV packed with capability.”

Standard equipment for the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk include: Quadra-Drive II 4x4 system with rear Electronic Limited Slip Differential (ELSD), Quadra-Lift air suspension, Hill Ascent Control, skid plates and an anti-glare hood decal. Distinguishing exterior details for the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk comprise a grille and front apron that were originally introduced in the 75th anniversary edition of the Grand Cherokee, plus red tow hooks, 18-inch wheels, Trailhawk/Trail Rated badging, red accenting and a roof rack featuring grey accents. At extra cost, buyers will be able to option the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk with Mopar rock rails and 20-inch wheels fitted with Kevlar-reinforced Goodyear Adventure tyres.

A leather and suede combination in black with red stitching for the seat upholstery is the highlight of the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk's interior. Piano Black decorative trim coordinates with gunmetal paint finish. Standard features inside include a Trailhawk badge on the steering wheel and an 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment touch screen. Colours available are Redline Red, Billet Silver, Bright White, Rhino, Granite Crystal, Velvet Red and Diamond Black Crystal.

The Grand Cherokee Summit also features a new front apron and grille, with LED fog lights and 20-inch polished aluminium wheels. Four interior colour schemes are available, with one of those schemes being and Indigo/Ski Gray combination for the Laguna leather-trimmed seats. The other interior colours are Black, Brown and Dark Sienna Brown. Nappa leather is applied to the dashboard, centre console and door panels, and the headlining is a premium suede. Other features in the cabin are illuminating door sills, acoustic windscreen, Active Noise Cancellation, Berber carpet mats and a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

Like the Trailhawk, the Grand Cherokee Summit comes with Quadra-Drive II 4x4 system with ELSD, Quadra-Lift air suspension and Selec-Speed Control. Standard driver-assist technology consists of fold-in mirrors, headlight washers, Blind Spot Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning and Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist. Colours available for the Grand Cherokee Summit are Light Brown Stone, True Blue, Bright White, Ivory Pearl, Granite Crystal, Velvet Red, Diamond Black Crystal and Luxury Brown.

No word at the moment as to whether we'll see either vehicle in Australia, but according to FCA Australia spokesman Andrew Chesterton it's likely that the entire expanded range for 2017 will go on sale here before the end of the year.
