Nissan has announced it will unveil a facelifted version of its GT-R at the New York motor show next week.
Thought to be the final update in the current R35 coupe’s lifespan, the revised GT-R is primed to be offered with even more power, topping the incredible 441kW power ouput that the latest NISMO version offers.
Other rumours suggest the car revealed at New York might even come with a hybrid version of Nissan's twin-turbo 3.7-litre V6.
If so, the new engine could preview the advanced powertrain Nissan has confirmed it will offer with its all-new R36 GT-R that’s due to arrive in 2018.
The new engine is expected to harness technology developed on the ill-fated Nissan GT-R LM NISMO Le Mans race car.
That car used a smaller 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 with a gearbox mounted in front of the engine. In front of that in the nose lay a mechanical flywheel that worked as an energy recovery system that could be used to power the rear wheels of the production car.
More will be revealed following its unveiling.
Nissan has recently confirmed the R35 Nissan GT-R NISMO will come to Australia after all.
It's set to go on sale in late 2016, but deliveries are not due to begin until early 2017.
Prices have yet to be confirmed, but the fastest ever Nissan supercar is expected to be priced up to around $200,000.
