The next-generation BMW 7 Series will be available with a mighty 480kW pure-electric powertrain offering a mammoth 700km of range.
According to sources speaking to BMWblog.com, the first all-electric BMW 7 Series could be available in global markets before the end of 2021.
Set to be badged the 'i7', the zero-emissions plug-in luxo limo will reportedly come with different power outputs and at least three different battery packs of varying energy densities.
And, like the forthcoming i4, entry-level versions of the 7 Series will come with an 80kWh battery and stretch to at least 120kWh, possibly higher.
The source suggests the 7 Series will get the car-maker's next-generation batteries, but did not confirm whether or not they will be solid-state or more advanced versions of existing lithium-ion cells.
In any case, the next BMW 7 Series will be capable of travelling at least 700km between charges, while the most powerful version will be driven by twin electric motors mustering an incredible 480kW.
Even, considering a kerb weight of around 2500kg, as well as being the most powerful BMW of all time, the all-wheel drive 2021 i7 could also be the Bavarian brand's quickest car ever to 100km/h, with a sub-3.0sec sprint feasible.
Development of the all-new replacement for the the recently facelifted 7 Series has been described as "well underway" as its 2021 launch date approaches.
