Next-gen 2020 Holden Trax teased

General Motors teases all-new Holden Trax, gets new Chevy Blazer-inspired looks

General Motors has teased the all-new replacement for the Holden Trax small SUV at a meeting held for its investors, ahead of this week's Detroit motor show.

The Holden Trax, sold as the Chevrolet Trax in the US market, was previewed by a single image as part of a presentation to attending stakeholders.

Featuring slim headlamps with twin LED daytime running light elements, a narrow top grille sitting above a huge front air intake and sweeping body lines, the next Holden Trax looks like it will take its imposing looks from the new Chevrolet Blazer (pictured) that was unveiled back in June 2018.

Nothing else was revealed about the next Trax, which was Holden's best-selling SUV in 2018, but it's rumoured the small SUV will share few mechanical parts with the current model. Instead it will sit on GM's new Vehicle Set Strategy (VSS) platform that underpins the old Gamma II architecture.

Under the bonnet, it's likely the current Holden Trax's turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder, that musters 122kW and 240Nm of torque, will be replaced with a more modern alternative, including a specific pure-electric version made specifically for the Chinese market.

Same goes for the six-speed automatic, which is set to be retired for either the nine-speed auto or dual-clutch transmission from the Blazer.

Both two- and all-wheel drive is expected as well as the option of both mild- and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Either way, the new Holden Trax is set to be a more efficient and refined vehicle to drive with more tech and convenience features. For Holden it can't come soon enough.

Despite the tease, it's not known when GM plans to reveal the Trax at the 2019 Detroit motor show, but the small SUV could be on sale before the end of 2019.
