US firm Our Next Energy (ONE) has retrofitted a Tesla Model S with its new state-of-the-art battery pack that's claimed to provide the electric luxury sedan with an incredible 1210km range.
According to the Michigan-based tech start-up, the Model S was fitted with its experimental 203.7kWh Gemini battery that allowed it to cover an incredible 1419km between charges when driven at an average 55mph (89km/h).
According to ONE, the battery-swapped Tesla benefits from newly-developed artificial intelligence to maximise the range.
The new tech developed from ONE is also said to be cheaper, safer and more sustainable than existing tech.
Said to have the financial backing of BMW, among others, ONE says production versions of its batteries will see a typical large SUV offer a range of 1127km.
Commenting on its new tech, ONE engineer Mujeeb Ijaz said: "We want to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles by eliminating range anxiety, which holds back most consumers today.
"We are now focused on evolving this proof-of-concept battery into a new product called Gemini, which will enable long-distance trips on a single charge while improving cost and safety using sustainable materials”.
