Lexus has teased an outlandish new six-wheeled people mover concept ahead of the Japan Mobility Show.
Considerably bigger and more opulent than the already flash Lexus LM, the new LS concept is a total rethink of the LS recipe which started way back in 1990 as Lexus’ original limo.
‘LS’ originally stood for ‘Luxury Sedan’ but has been rehashed to ‘Luxury Space’ as outright passenger room and technology become increasingly prevalent requirements for a luxury vehicle.
The glowing wheels suggest the presence of a battery-electric powertrain – though we have no doubt the production version will also offer hybrid power – while the staggered wheels and dual rear axles are said to maximise stability and interior space.
Lexus chairman Akio Toyoda said that while the concept was “still a long way off” production, the brand is “serious about it” and “will definitely” happen… eventually.
The current LS (sedan) has been around since 2017 and was facelifted in 2020 – to which some subtler updates have been added – making it one of the older models in Lexus’ fleet.
It’s unclear if it will be replaced by another sedan or if Lexus is planning to replace it with an upscaled LM sibling; an electric six-wheel version of which could eventually materialise as the mothership of.
The 2025 Lexus LS Concept will make its public debut at the end of the month.
