Next Holden Colorado takes shape

This is our first official glimpse of the new-look Holden Colorado ute, which is expected to arrive in Australia from around October 2016, and will be shown at the 2016 Bangkok motor show next week.

Although the teaser image is of a concept vehicle, which will be fitted with all manner of eye-catching accessories, such as flared wheel arches, heavy-duty off-road tyres and even a snorkel, it provides a clearer view of how the facelifted Colorado utes and SUVs will be styled.

We recently saw spy images of the new Holden Colorado ute from Brazil, which appeared to be an entry-level vehicle, where this concept hints at a top-end, hard core, high-powered version – complete with bonnet vents.

Potentially GM's counterpunch for the Ford Ranger Wildtrack, the concept ute will be shown alongside another vehicle, an SUV, expected to be the Chevy Trailblazer, or Colorado 7 as it's called here.

The Holden Colorado is built in Thailand, along with most of the utes sold in Australia, and as previously reported the camouflaged versions of the new Colorado 7 SUV have already surfaced while testing in Melbourne.

In their current form, the Colorado ute and its seven-seat SUV sibling are offered with 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engines pumping out 147 kilowatts of power and 500Nm of torque with a six-speed automatic, giving it a potential 3500kg towing capacity.

It's not yet clear whether the facelifted Colorado vehicles arriving later in the year will get updated engines.
