Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed that its future models will use recyclable materials in their cabins to cut plastic waste in a bid to become more sustainable.
Announcing a new partnership with Italian textile giant Aquaful, JLR revealed that its next-generation vehicles' seat coverings and floor mats will be made using Econyl – an advanced new material made from recycled industrial materials that uses fabric off-cuts from the clothing industry and even used fishing nets.
Already widely used in the fashion industry, Econyl has been used by BMW in its i3 since 2016, while Volvo used the planet-friendly fabric in its V90 Cross Country Ocean Race special edition back in 2017.

Recent adopters include the upcoming Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the pure-electric Porsche Taycan.
The Econyl JLR plans to use is claimed to be 90 per cent less harmful to the environment compared to traditional materials. Any by-products generated, such as metallic materials and copper sulphate extracted from fishing nets, will be sent to other recycling industries.
The beauty of Econyl as a material, JLR claims, is it is both "premium-feeling" to the touch and hard-wearing, suggesting it could be a good match for families who own Land Rovers.
