Next Mercedes-AMG E 63 to get 450kW V8
Hottest E-Class ever to get new 4.0-litre V8 turbo with wick turned up to an incredible 450kWMercedes-AMG will attempt to outgun BMW by giving its new E 63 AMG almost 450kW when it’s introduced some time in 2017.
The news, revealed by Brit car mag Autocar, follows an interview with a source close to Mercedes-AMG who said the current 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine that powers the C-Class is capable of producing far more power than the current 375kW it offers under the bonnet of C 63 S AMG.
According to the source, the all-new E 63 will have “something in the range of” 600hp (448kW) from the phase two development of the 4.0-litre petrol V8.
Meanwhile, BMW has already been spotted testing its next-generation M5 sports sedan that’s also rumoured to be working on squeezing more power from its 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, which currently peaks at 423kW/680Nm in the M5 Competition Pack.
With both car-makers rumoured to be targeting weight losses of at least 100kg over the cars they replace, the new E 63 and M5 are expected to cover the 0-100km/h dash in times of less than four seconds.
The new 5 Series is expected to be in showrooms in the second half of 2016, while the all-new E-Class is expected to be revealed at the 2016 Detroit motor show.
