Next Nissan Patrol previewed by 2025 Infiniti QX80 teaser

Upmarket Y63 Nissan Patrol sibling locked in for a March 20 reveal

The new 2025 Infiniti QX80 has been officially teased for the first time in production form and confirmed for reveal on March 20.

While this is of little relevance to the Australian market, in which Nissan’s luxury brand is no longer present, the teaser and debut date for the big new Lexus LX rival effectively starts the countdown clock for the launch of the all-new 2025 Nissan Patrol (Y63), given the two extra-large SUVs will be essentially the same apart from their front-end and cabin designs.

We already know from previous spy shots and concept cars that the new Infiniti QX80 will bring a newfound layer of grandeur and sophistication, but these fresh teaser images confirm the finished product will closely resemble the 2023 Infiniti QX Monograph concept, including its full-width tail-light signature, integrated door-handles, square bonnet and segmented DRLs.

An illuminated badge is also shown in the artsy teaser video that was also shared overnight and it’s positioned in exactly the same place as it was on the Monograph.

The car’s seemingly mild evolution from concept to production car is reflected in the names bestowed upon them: the concept was called the Monograph while the teased production vehicle wears ‘Autograph’ badging.

The video is just one of a number of upcoming clips revolving around the next-gen QX80, with this one focusing on the virtual-themed camouflage created by digital artist Kaoru Tanaka and applied to the displayed vehicle.

“Before new models are revealed, they are typically hidden behind camouflage that aims to obscure,” said Infiniti global design boss Alfonso Albaisa.

“But we feel the all-new QX80 is too extraordinary to keep completely hidden.”

What all this means for the next Patrol may not be clear right away, but you can expect a more elegant Range Rover-like design from Nissan’s flagship off-road wagon, which is expected to be revealed in the US in the months following the new QX80’s debut.

Both models are set to be powered by a twin-turbo petrol V6 – something that Nissan executives don’t think will nobble the Patrol in its battle against its only real rival, the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series.

“I think the customers in the moment that they see and drive a V6 twin-turbo, you discover a new universe,” Nissan global product boss Ivan Espinosa told carsales in October in reference to the new powerplant, which will replace the current Patrol’s lusty VK56DE 5.6-litre petrol V8.

“The capability, the performance, the acceleration, the power delivery and output. It’s different.”

Odds are the new Patrol will debut in the US by around mid-2024 as the Nissan Armada, ahead of an Australian release that’s not expected to take place until mid-2025.
