Fans of Skoda's Octavia Scout need not fear. There's a new model on the way, but the Czech-based VW brand is just not prepared to reveal much about it for the moment.
Skoda execs were largely unmoved by the appeals for more information from Australian journalists attending the overseas launch of the Rapid Spaceback and the Octavia RS last week.
They let nothing slip about the next generation of Octavia Scout other than these two artist's renderings and a vague hint that the new model will remain largely based on the standard-ride height Octavia, and may feature an updated Haldex system to take drive to the rear wheels.
What we can tell you about the next Scout is that it will likely be an exclusively diesel offering, as the current model is, and the new model will be very heavily based on the new Octavia, presumably offering the highly desired DSG transmission option from launch. The Scout is not a large-selling model in Skoda's local product portfolio, picking up just 96 sales for the full year 2013. And that was even with the DSG option it had lacked from its original launch here in 2008. It is a model, however, that Skoda can afford to keep in the local range, since it shares so many parts and service consumables with the diesel Octavia.
Volkswagen Australia can shed little light on the new car's anticipated specification for Australia at this stage, but has advised that they expect it to arrive early in 2015.
