Nip and tuck for Mahindra XUV500

Facelift pencilled in for last quarter of the year, followed by first auto trans option in the new year

Mahindra will release a subtle but significant update of its XUV500 seven-seat in the local market during the fourth quarter of this year.

And the revised model is anticipated to find a wider sales base when automatic versions join the range early in 2016, says the importer.

A high-specification 'W10' variant is also under consideration for the local market. This variant will feature an electric sunroof, projector-beam headlights, six-way power adjustment for the driver's seat, keyless entry/start, seven-inch infotainment touch screen and brake energy regeneration. New standard features across the range comprise: reversing camera, voice messaging, connected (mobile apps) services for audio/climate control, tyre pressure monitoring, trip computer, auto-on/off headlights/rain-sensing wipers and cruise control.

With its arrival, the revised XUV500 gains hydraulic support for the bonnet, a new design of 17-inch alloy wheel, rejigged styling cues and additional brightwork.

Designers have opted for a two-tone dash and a range of high-specification features expected to broaden the XUV500's appeal in Australia.

The engine, a 103kW/330Nm diesel four, displaces 2.2 litres and runs through a standard six-speed manual transmission. James Halliwell, Marketing Manager for the brand in Australia, has told motoring.com.au that the automatic will arrive here in the second quarter of next year, and Mahindra has been running test mules in Australia as a prelude to the updated model's launch here.
