NISMO shows off 320kW Nissan Patrol

Japanese performance divisions goes nuts (again), makes performance version of current Y62 Patrol. Doesn’t come with GT-R running gear

NISMO has followed up its Nissan JUKE-R 2.0 by giving the humble, rough and ready, Patrol the full performance car makeover.

Created chiefly for the Middle East market, the Nissan Patrol NISMO is said to be proof of Nissan’s commitment to make “thrilling driving experiences accessible to all” - including Patrol owners.

Powered by the standard car’s range-topping 5.6-litre V8, some underbonnet tinkering liberates a further 21kW boosting total power to 320kW.

Sadly, neither Nissan or NISMO has released performance figures but with both the increase in power and torque (not known) the same engineers who normally spend their lives at the Nurburgring developing ever faster GT-Rs had their work cut out with the near three-tonne Patrol.

To cope with the bigger power output, NISMO has given the fastest ever Patrol, this side of the Dakar rally, a factory-reinforced bodyshell.

Engineers also had to completly rethink the suspension settling on a new NISMO specific suspension tune that includes new Bilstein dampers.

Even the body has been modified for better aerodynamics at far higher speeds than the poor old Patrol is used to with the big SUV gaining new front and rear bumpers to reduce lift and drag. Finally, a set of huge 22-inch Rays alloys are added.

It’s unlikely the Patrol NISMO will come to Australia but some of its performance enhancing parts might  one day hit the options list and be offered as dealer-fit accessories.
