The Nissan LEAF is off to a slow start in the Australian market, with just 71 cars sold for the year to date. And since price appears to be the stumbling block, the importer has rolled out a retail incentive program for the electric vehicle, starting with a driveaway price of $46,990 – a substantial reduction from the manufacturer's list price of $51,500. The offer is only valid until March 31, 2013.
Nissan has also arranged with its finance arm, Nissan Financial Services Australia, to offer buyers a zero per cent loan, with zero deposit required. A further option available is a package costing $499 a month over 36 months, with 3.0 per cent interest payable. The importer recognises that the LEAF is an appealing product for fleets, but needs to be priced accordingly, so a special fleet price has also been worked out for commercial buyers.
“The all-electric, zero tailpipe Nissan LEAF is one of the most innovative and exciting cars available on the Australian market,” said Nissan Australia Managing Director and CEO William F Peffer Jr, as quoted in press release issued today. “These new offers provide more people with more options to own their own LEAF.”
