Nissan D40 Navara embroiled in Takata scandal
Recently superseded D40 Navara the latest to fall foul of airbag defectOwners of the Nissan D40 Navara built in Thailand between 2008 and 2014 will soon be contacted by the importer to have the driver's airbag replaced at no extra cost.
As many as 41,373 vehicles in the D40 Navara series were sold in Australia with faulty airbags supplied by Takata. Nissan stresses that not all the vehicles subject to the recall campaign are necessarily affected. The VIN range for the D40 Narava is MNT*C*D40A0000009 to MNT*C*D40A0603279.
Just like other vehicles fitted with Takata airbags over the past two decades, the D40 Navara's driver airbag may issue shrapnel while deploying after a collision. The problem is due to a well-established manufacturing flaw that is so far believed to have resulted in recalls for over a million vehicles.
Nissan will be in touch with owners once replacement parts become available and the vehicle can be booked in for the repair.
