Cat cafés are big business in Japan, so it’s no wonder that Nissan has partnered up with one of the largest chains, Cat Café Mocha to help promote their Dayz small kei car.
Cat Cafés or Neko Cafés as they are known in Japan are a type of coffee shop where you can play with cats that roam freely around the place, while you sit back and drink your coffee or tea. Cat cafés can be found in most major cities and have grown in popularity over the last few years. With pet ownership in Japanese cities difficult due to small living spaces, strict rental agreements and busy lifestyles, these quirky cafes are popular with locals as well as overseas visitors who love the company of cats.
For the month of November, visitors to these cafés will get to see the cat workers play around in miniature Nissan Dayz which are essentially cardboard boxes. You can just hear the engines purring now.
They will also have the chance to walk away with some free Nissan and Cat Café Mocha merchandise including face masks. Very 2020 indeed.
According to the official statement from Cat Café Mocha “Please note that the cars may not be driving depending on the mood of the cat.”
Cats also feature in the latest Nissan Dayz marketing campaign too. Perhaps they are the pur-fect gimmick to get people into a new car.
