Nissan electric SUV concept is ‘hyper’ active

Futuristic Nissan Hyper Adventure concept hints at snow-taming X-TRAIL SUV with gullwing doors

Nissan has exposed its latest off-road SUV design study, the Nissan Hyper Adventure concept, ahead of its official ‘digital’ reveal at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show on October 26.

Following the ultra-edgy Hyper Urban concept with its equally fractal-tastic styling, the Adventure concept is the second design in Nissan’s naval-gazing four-vehicle ‘Hyper’ series and boasts a couple of show-stopping features.

Retractable tailgate steps and a couch-like rear seat that can pivot 180 degrees are designed to make putting on sports gear, such as ski boots, a lot easier, while rear gull-wing doors with horizontally hinges enable easier loading of adventure sports equipment.

Beyond the roof racks, Nissan reckons the interior can swallow large loads and “boasts cargo space for outdoor equipment such as tents, skis or even a kayak”.

The mid-size SUV concept is potentially a reference point for a future Nissan X-TRAIL, with the Japanese car-maker describing the Hyper Adventure study as a sports SUV “designed for people passionate about outdoor adventures and an eco-friendly lifestyle”.

Powered by dual e-motors, one at each axle, using the brand’s e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system, the Hyper Adventure concept features a special Snow mode to improve traction on slippery surfaces.

Nissan hasn’t specified the battery density, but when the car-maker says it’s capable of “a months-long journey to a remote locale”, it stands to reason that the “large-capacity battery’ will be a whopper.

Moreover, the vehicle can recharge appliances and big power toys, including electric jet skis, with vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability. Vehicle-to-grid (V2L) is also built in.

Nissan is hitting its concept car stride this year following the audacious Nissan Micra 20-23 super-hatch and now a pair of far-flung futuristic ‘Hyper’ concepts.

More concepts are also set to be unveiled ahead of the Tokyo show.
