Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign to cost $1.4m-plus

First of 50 examples of 530kW Nissan GT-R special to hit Goodwood hill-climb this week

Fifty examples of the stunning Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign will be produced and one of them can be yours for a cool $1.4 million.

That’s the news from Nissan tonight, ahead of the bespoke-bodied supercar’s world debut at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the GT-R50 will indeed take to the world-famous Chichester hill-climb in England from this Thursday (July 12).

Revealed in full via a series of images and a YouTube video, the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign was first announced in June, when Nissan confirmed its first collaboration with Italdesign to celebrate the 50th birthday of both the GT-R and the Italian design house in 2019 and 2018 respectively.

Now it has announced it will build 50 of the bespoke-bodied supercars, powered by a 530kW/780Nm 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 – making it about 90kW more powerful than the top-shelf Nissan GT-R NISMO.

Each will come with an officially estimated starting price of €900,000 ($A1.418m) and customers are invited to register their interest via a dedicated GT-R50 website

"The Goodwood Festival of Speed is the ideal setting to showcase the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign, which combines power and artistry to celebrate 50 years of inspiring the dreams of our customers,” said Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s senior vice-president of global design.

"Just like the prototype itself, Goodwood is a celebration of design, performance, a little indulgence and a lot of love of historic and future automotive creativity.

"It’s the perfect setting to showcase a unique vehicle that will stir the imagination of people to dream even bigger," he said.

As we’ve reported, the GT-R50 features GT3-spec turbochargers, larger intercoolers, a heavy-duty crankshaft, new pistons, revised camshaft, higher-flow fuel injectors and optimised ignition, intake and exhaust systems.

Other mechanical changes include a reinforced dual-clutch six-speed rear transaxle, stronger differential and drive shafts, and revised suspension with Bilstein DampTronic adaptive dampers. There are also six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembo brake discs with red callipers.

Strangely, Nissan says Italdesign developed, engineered and built the car, while the exterior and interior designs originated from Nissan Design Europe and Nissan Design America.

Key design features include a pronounced power bulge on the bonnet, stretched LED headlights, a lowered roofline, and prominent “samurai blade” cooling outlets behind the front wheels.

A large, adjustable rear wing, mounted with two uprights, completes the overall look. The exterior is finished in a Liquid Kinetic Gray colour, with distinctive Energetic Sigma Gold anniversary accents.

Inside the GT-R50 cabin, two different carbon-fibre finishes are used across the centre console, instrument panel and door linings, while the seats feature black Alcantara and fine black Italian leather, and gold accents echo the exterior treatment throughout the cockpit.

"At Italdesign, we have a long history of making our customers’ dreams come true,” said Italdesign-Giugiaro SpA CEO Joerg Astalosch.

“By joining forces now with our partners at Nissan, we brought a true GT-R fantasy to life.

“Together, we have the target that soon this ‘monster’ of a vehicle will change the lives of 50 very select enthusiasts. Their wait will soon be over."
