GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Nissan IMQ Concept set to premiere

Pure-electric Nissan IMQ looks like it could be a cut-price alternative to Jaguar's I-PACE

Nissan has released a sketch of the Nissan IMQ Concept that it will unwrap at next week's Geneva motor show.

Claiming the new design study will be a "sneak peak as to what might be in your future driveway", the Japanese car maker hasn't revealed any more details on the pure-electric Nissan IMQ Concept.

From the rendering that appears to preview a sporty SUV with large wheels, wide arches and steeply-raked rear window, it's thought the Nissan IMQ reveals either a Qashqai-sized stablemate or a larger car that could have been designed to steal sales from prestige SUVs like the Audi e-tron, Jaguar I-PACE and the forthcoming Mercedes EQC.

No information is available relating to the Nissan IMQ concept's powertrain but the car maker says whatever drives the new SUV-coupe "embodies the future of Nissan Intelligent Mobility".

Nissan Intelligent Mobility is the car-maker's speak for the division tasked with developing the company's new autonomous technology -- hinting the IMQ could embrace an advanced driverless feature.

Following on from the Nissan IMs concept that was revealed at the Detroit motor show in January, perhaps the latest SUV concept will also feature the same monstrous twin-motor set up as the IMs.

If that's the case, expect the IMQ to also produce an incredible 360kW and 800Nm of torque that should see the SUV-Coupe beat rivals like the Jag and embarrass super sports cars like the Nissan GT-R for acceleration, at least.

That concept for a modern take on a luxury sedan also featured cool new tech like an on-board avatar to sit with you if you're lonely and augmented reality that allows the driver to see around corners.

Nissan is likely to issue at least another tease of the IMQ ahead of its official reveal on March 5.
