Nissan LEAF electric car recalled over cruise control glitch

Software malfunction could cause Nissan’s EV to accelerate when the cruise control is deactivated

More than 1760 Nissan LEAF electric cars produced between 2018 and 2023 – including the LEAF e+ – have been recalled by Nissan Australia to fix a potential software glitch with the cruise control system.

In a recall notice issued overnight, the Japanese car-maker said: “Due to a software issue, the cruise control function may not operate as intended and could cause unintentional acceleration when deactivated.

“An unintentional acceleration when using the cruise control function may increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users,” the company said.

Nissan Australia has asked all affected owners to “contact their local Nissan dealership to schedule an appointment to have their cruise control software updated, free of charge”.

Vehicles affected by the recall are listed (by VIN) on the attached online document issued by the Federal Department of Transport.

You can also view the official recall notice on the department’s Vehicle Recalls website here.
