Nissan LEAF10 celebrates a decade of electric hatch

Japanese car-maker marks 10th anniversary with style upgrades and new tech for battery-powered hatch

Nissan has announced it will chime in the 10th anniversary of the pure-electric Nissan LEAF with a new commemorative special-edition that will be launched in 2021.

The new edition, called the LEAF10, is set to be offered in global markets where the Nissan LEAF is already sold, although the anniversary EV has yet to be confirmed for Australia.

Benefiting from exterior styling upgrades, in the flesh the Nissan LEAF10 gets a new two-tone Ceramic Grey and Pearl Black paint, plus a new vinyl wrap applied to the door mirrors, roof and tailgate that's claimed to feature a pattern inspired by the new next-gen Nissan Ariya SUV's front grille design.

There's also a new LEAF10 badge on the C-pillar.

Mirroring the single-specification Nissan LEAF we get Down Under, the LEAF10 is fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels, rear privacy glass and front fog lamps, while inside there's heat treatment for the seats and steering wheel, plus an 8.0-inch infotainment screen that works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

There's also the car-maker's ProPilot semi-autonomous cruise control, lane keep assist and traffic jam pilot, plus blind spot intervention.

Available only with the same (entry-level) 40kWh version of the Nissan LEAF that is sold in Australia, the celebratory EV sticks with the regular electric motor that musters 110kW/320Nm, meaning it takes the same 7.9 seconds to hit 100km/h.

The range remains 270km, with an 80 per cent charge using a 50kW fast charger taking around an hour.

In 10 years of LEAF production, Nissan claims it has made more than 500,000 worldwide, making it one of the world's best-selling EVs.
