The long talked-about Nissan Navara-based SUV has been inadvertently confirmed.
Studio shots posted by a Chinese automotive website have verified a Pathfinder successor is slated for production, further fuelling rumours that Nissan will show off the new model at April’s Beijing motor show.
But before we get too far, motoring.com.au understands the D23-based SUV is not coming to Australian showrooms. The car’s safety credentials are understood to be the sticking point – making the SUV suitable for Asian and South American markets but not for Australia, where Nissan's SUV line-up is already extensive.
Employing the underpinnings, drivetrains and largely the styling of the D23 Nissan Navara, the as-yet-unnamed SUV is destined to take on like-minded rivals including the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest, Mitsubishi Sport Pajero, Holden Trailblazer and Isuzu MU-X.
Though the SUV scores new headlights, and a revised front bumpers, there are clear similarities between it and the donor vehicle.
