Nissan Navara PRO-4X Warrior priced

Tougher locally developed dual-cab 4x4 ute now on sale ahead of first deliveries in September

Pricing for the new Nissan Navara PRO-4X Warrior has been announced ahead of the Australian-engineered tough truck’s nationwide release on September 1.

As expected, Nissan Australia’s second locally developed Warrior model, based on the new PRO-4X flagship of the upgraded 2021 Navara range released in May, is pricier than the previous NTREK Warrior it replaces but more affordable than its most direct rival, the Toyota HiLux Rugged X.

Pricing for the top-shelf Rugged X version of Australia’s top-selling ute increased to $69,990 plus on-road costs in August 2020, when the manual transmission option was also dropped.

Today, Nissan Australia announced the exact same $69,990 plus ORCs price for the Navara Warrior automatic, while the manual version will cost $2500 less at $67,490 plus ORCs.

That's $3700 more than the price at which the previous NTREK Warrior manual was last sold ($63,790 plus ORCs) and significantly more than the $62,990 drive-away base price it was launched with in December 2019.

However, like the updated Navara, the new Warrior is safer and more stylish than the model it replaces, and also brings improved payload among other chassis advances.

Development and testing of the new Navara flagship has now been completed by Premcar, which is now in the process of modifying the Warrior ahead of first shipments to Nissan dealerships.

Like the original Navara NTREK Warrior developed and converted by Premcar from 2019, the new Navara PRO-4X Warrior brings a range of hardware upgrades designed to improve the dual-cab 4x4 ute’s capability both off-road and on.

Indeed, Nissan is claiming the new Warrior, which now goes by the title ‘PRO-4X Warrior by Premcar’, will be “the toughest Navara in the world”.

“The PRO-4X Warrior by Premcar is a true Warrior 2.0, delivering more technology, more capability and more go-anywhere toughness than any Navara before it,” said Premcar engineering director Bernie Quinn in a press release today.

“We set out to create the most capable Navara ever, and this new Warrior is exactly that.  It’s been engineered from the ground up to tackle the toughest terrain Australia can deliver, all without sacrificing comfort.

“Any new model should be a true evolution, and that’s exactly what we’ve achieved with this Warrior. It benefits from all of our learnings, our customer feedback, and from the improvements made to the Navara PRO-4X, creating a new dual-cab ute that is tailor-made for Australian conditions.

“Now all that’s left is to get people behind the wheel, and that time is almost here.”

In addition to the range of design and safety upgrades applied across the updated 2021 Navara range, the Warrior brings the following enhancements:

- Winch-compatible safari-style bullbar
- Integrated bullbar-mounted light bar
- Warrior-specific towbar
- Navara-branded red front bash plate
- 3mm steel second-stage under-body protection plate
- 275/70 R17 Cooper Discoverer All Terrain AT3 tyres
- 100kg GVM upgrade to 3250kg
- Increased payload to 961kg (manual) and 952kg (auto)
- Increased ground clearance, from 220 to 260mm
- Wider track, from 1570 to 1600mm
- Improved approach angle, from 32 to 36 degrees
- Near-identical departure angle, from 19.8 to 19 degrees
- Revised suspension with new spring rates
- Revised front and rear damping
- Larger, taller jounce bumper
- Warrior-specific fender flares
- Warrior decal pack
- Warrior head restraint embroidery
- Full-size spare tyre with alloy wheel

Nissan Australia’s five-year, unlimited-km factory warranty applies to all manufacturer components, and Premcar matches that for all Warrior enhancements.

There are no changes to the Navara’s 140kW/450Nm 2.3-litre four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine and towing capacity remains 3500kg.

Standard Navara features include an 8.0-inch touch-screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a 7.0-inch instrument cluster display.

Range-wide safety equipment extends to Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Emergency Braking, Intelligent Driver Alertness, Lane Departure Warning, Intelligent Lane Intervention, Blind Spot Warning, Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention and an Intelligent Around View Monitor, including an Off-Road Monitor, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Premcar, which is also working on a Patrol Warrior now due for release in 2022, plans to produce 1500 Navara Warriors annually and the model could even be exported. Watch this space for our first drive of the new Navara Warrior in late August.
