Nissan Navara scores added safety kit

New model year update arrives in February, boosting one-tonner's driver-assist tech

Nissan's Navara range for 2018 is due to go on sale late in February, offering advanced new safety equipment for select models.

The high-grade ST-X dual-cab and King Cab variants will feature Around-View Monitor – four external cameras feeding a seven-inch infotainment screen to assist with parking. Additionally, a Rear View Camera will become standard equipment for all pick-up (ute) variants, with the vision displayed in the infotainment screen of the SL, ST and ST-X models, or in the rear-view mirror of the RX variants. Satellite navigation will be fitted as standard for the Navara King Cab ST, matching its dual-cab counterpart.

Dual-Cab ST-X and King Cab ST-X models are to be offered with the $1500 option of leather upholstery for the seats. This option will incorporate seat heating, leather-accented door trim and eight-way electric adjustment for the driver's seat, with powered lumbar adjustment.

Additional tie-down hooks will be introduced to the Navara at the same time, with four new hooks for the ST-X variants equipped with Utili-track. For RX, SL and ST pick-up models, the tie-down hook positions will be lower than at present. All dual-cab models will adopt ISOFIX child-safety seat anchorage points for the outboard rear seats also.

Later in the year, with effect from June, Navara SL, ST and ST-X grades will gain a digital speedometer read-out within the instrument cluster. For the 2018 model year update, suspension and steering changes will also be introduced, but Nissan is not currently revealing the nature of these changes. More news will follow from the vehicle's local launch later this month.

"The 2018 Nisan Navara includes some important new additions that will continue to entice Ute buyers to the Nissan brand," says Stephen Lester, Nissan Australia's managing director.

"Before the 2018 model arrives, our focus is on the runout of the current series.

"There are some great runout deals available for private buyers, who can purchase the Navara Dual Cab ST 4X4 from $42,990 driveaway, as well as a range of offers for those with an ABN.

"There's not a lot of stock left, so I invite customers to take advantage of these prices while they can."

Prices have been adjusted upwards for eight variants in the 35-strong range, but the increases are capped at no more than $500 – offset by the extra standards equipment.
