Nissan Navara Series 2 on sale
Australia's top-selling Nissan gets improved suspension, revised features, a new model grade – and price changesNissan Australia has today announced the arrival of the updated Navara Series 2 light commercial range.
The donor model for upcoming dual-cabs such as the Renault Alaskan and Mercedes-Benz X-Class, the Series 2 range is priced from $25,990 to $52,490.
Series 2 Dual Cab models which feature a five-link coil spring rear suspension benefit from recalibrated shock absorbers front and rear, which says Nissan deliver "more refined ride and handling with improved lateral stability, especially when carrying a load in the cargo area or towing".
The change follows criticism the outgoing coil-sprung Navara models were challenged when carrying heavy loads.
Nissan has, however, left the engines essentially unchanged, meaning a choice of 2.3-litre single and twin-turbo diesels generating 120kW/403Nm and 140kW/450Nm respectively.
Six-speed manual and seven-speed automatic transmissions continue to be offered but Nissan says it has tweaked both to deliver a better "balance between acceleration and fuel economy".
The seven-speed auto gets "an expanded gear ratio" which results in "a wider range of speeds along with smooth acceleration and shift changes," says Nissan.
Key line-up change for 2017 is the addition of an extra model grade dubbed SL Dual Cab. This is priced at $43,990 for the manual or $46,490 for the auto. It comes with the “premium” coil-spring rear suspension and slots in above the RX grade and below the ST model.
Power for the new SL comes from the 140kW/450Nm twin-turbo diesel engine. The car is packaged with a rear-view camera, LED headlights with daytime running lights, and features tradie-friendly vinyl flooring in the cabin.
The rest of the range -- Dual Cab cab-chassis, King Cab and Single Cab -- all feature leaf springs at rear, befitting their 'workhorse' alignment.

Braked towing remains unchanged at 3500kg for all models. Other changes to the updated 2017 Nissan Navara include:

With LCVs such an important part of the Australian marketplace, Nissan is keen to talk up the new Navara line-up. Says Nissan Australia Managing Director and CEO, Richard Emery: "The Navara Series 2 offers an even more compelling mix of the features Australian one-tonne ute buyers are seeking.”
All Aussie Navaras come with a three-year, 100,000km warranty and 24-hour roadside assistance program and a full-sized spare wheel.
Scheduled servicing intervals are tagged every 20,000km or 12 months (whichever occurs first) and the Navara has a five-star ANCAP safety rating across the range.
