Nissan QASHQAI Midnight Edition gets black-ops look

Black-out treatment for small SUV ahead of its all-new replacement next year

Nissan has announced a stealthy new special-edition variant of the popular Nissan QASHQAI ahead of its release in mid-November and the arrival of an all-new model late next year.

Based on the upgraded 2020 Nissan QASHQAI released in February, when it received upgraded safety and tech features, the 2020 Nissan QASHQAI Midnight Edition follows previous special-edition versions of the small SUV including the N Sport and N-Tec.

Priced from $35,900 plus on-road costs, the Midnight Edition is positioned between the mid-range ST-L variant ($34,300 plus ORCs) and the flagship Ti grade ($38,790 plus ORCs).

The dark-themed overhaul brings blacked-out and colour-matched exterior highlights including darkened headlight and tail-light elements, a gloss-black V-motion grille, gloss-black 19-inch Black Wind alloy wheels with 225/45 tyres, and gloss-black finishes for the front and rear bumper blades, bodyside mouldings, roof rails and mirror caps.

Unique black Alcantara-appointed leather trim is the interior highlight, along with black roof headlining and a combination of gloss and brushed black interior inserts.

Other Midnight extras include colour-matched exterior black bumper, wheel-arch and sill plastics (instead of black), LED headlights with adaptive front lighting, illuminated front door sill plates, auto-folding mirrors and a Midnight badge at the rear.

Five colour choices are available: Vivid Blue, Ivory Pearl, Gun Metallic, Magnetic Red and Pearl Black.

While the Midnight Edition lacks the ST-L’s heated front seats with power adjustment, carryover features include autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and a 360-degree camera with moving object detection.

Infotainment tech is as per the upgraded MY20 model, including a 7.0-inch touch-screen, Apple CarPlay and Android auto connectivity, satellite navigation, digital radio, Bluetooth and voice recognition.

There are no mechanical changes, meaning the Midnight Edition shares its 106kW/200Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, CVT automatic and front-wheel drive layout as the rest of the QASHQAI range.
