Nissan sees the light on Pulsar

Nissan Australia will reintroduce the Pulsar nameplate with its new small car lineup in 2012

Nissan's small car offerings next year will include a sedan and hatch model, and as speculated the range will be referred to as 'Pulsar' again.

Details on the new Pulsar's specification or engine options weren't available from Nissan at this week's announcement, which included pricing on the LEAF and timing on updates for Navara and new Patrol. The 2012 Tiida hatch (pictured) was unveiled at the Shanghai auto show this April with a 1.6-litre four-cylinder, improved front end styling and attractive interior.

When the Tiida replaced the Pulsar in 2006 it had big boots to fill but its sales have never matched the Pulsar's 17K-plus tally achieved the year before. The Tiida's packaging (size) can be mistaken for an option among the light car segment, especially when compared to some of the small car models bordering on mid-size offerings.

Nissan Australia spokespersons said the company will reveal pricing for the new Pulsar models closer to launch; scheduled for late 2012.
