The mystery NISMO model teased by Nissan over the weekend has been outed as a new flagship version of the Japanese domestic market (JDM)-only Nissan Skyline.
Revealed this morning as a special-edition only for Japan, just 1000 units of the 2024 Nissan Skyline NISMO will be built and all of them will be powered by the same NISMO-enhanced 309kW/550Nm twin-turbo 3.0-litre petrol V6 as the box-fresh Z NISMO.
Those outputs mark an 11kW/65Nm improvement over the standard engine tune and will be harnessed by a similarly fettled seven-speed automatic transmission armed with the same new Sport+ mode as the Z NISMO’s nine-speed unit.
The new Skyline flagship will be distinguished by its unique front and rear bumpers, specific side skirts, red exterior trim and black 19-inch Enkei alloy wheels shod with stickier and fatter tyres to ensure the extra firepower has an appropriate level of grip.
Behind the lightweight alloys will be a retuned suspension set-up featuring bigger sway bars, while the braking system has been upgraded with a more aggressive pad compound and a new ABS calibration, and the vehicle dynamics control system has also been given an overhaul.
“The Skyline NISMO Limited is a special specification model created to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the S54A-1 model Skyline GT,” Nissan said.
“It features a design reminiscent of a race car, exclusive matte gunmetal painted wheels and a high-precision engine.”
Owners will be reminded of the NISMO’s significance and exclusivity every time they drive it, thanks to a NISMO-spec steering wheel, 280km/h speedometer, black and red suede-trimmed Recaro sports seats and vehicle-specific ‘takumi’ label.
Being a JDM-specific model, there’s no chance of seeing the Skyline NISMO in Australian showrooms, despite Nissan resecuring the Skyline nameplate in our market for another decade or so early in 2022.
Thankfully we are getting the Z NISMO, albeit in very limited numbers, first deliveries of which are due to start in December.
