Nissan teases Super Bowl reveals

Nissan has announced that its first Super Bowl advertisement in nearly 20 years will feature two "surprise products" when it airs this Sunday.

No further details have been provided by Nissan directly, or in its 10-second teaser clip of the 90-second in-game TVC, which has been extended from 60 seconds at the cost of millions extra dollars.

While many automotive advertisers have already released their TVCs for Super Bowl XLIX via YouTube, Nissan is keeping most of its powder dry until the big game on February 1.

As previewed by the teaser, however, the ad will feature a 370Z NISMO race car and may comprise cameo appearances of the GT-R LM NISMO racer that will compete at Le Mans later this year, plus another mystery vehicle that could be Nissan's next Maxima.

Depicting the work-life balance of a father and professional car racer against the soundtrack of Harry Chapin's classic 'Cat's in the Cradle' hit, Nissan says it tells "a unique family story while maintaining a strong Nissan brand connection".

"We can't wait to share this emotional story with the Super Bowl audience and we hope seeing the first few seconds will whet America's appetite to watch the spot during the game," said Fred Diaz, senior vice-president, Nissan Sales and Marketing and Operations US, Nissan North America.

"We think we've captured and told a touching story about a family's struggles with work-life balance in our 90 seconds during the game. But what we really want is to start a conversation about family that lasts well beyond the game.

"The teaser gives a hint at an emotional story set to the beat of a very emotional and iconic piece of music. You'll also see two surprise products that will make cameo appearances in the full story on Sunday."
