Nissan Tweet and greet

Nissan Tweets new generation via online advertising offensive

New media is fast becoming the go-to marketing tool for car companies, and Nissan has turned to social networking system Twitter for two new campaigns in Australia.

The Nissan Micra campaign invites Tweeters to enter their own or friends' details into its 'Tweet City' website, which then tells users what kind of Tweeter they are, while matching them to a specific Micro colour.

Users are encouraged to try out the system and contribute to a database with the lure of winning a Micra.

In the past, companies such as Volkswagen have used the Facebook social networking website to promote its brand and products, and this interactive push is expected to take up more and more marketing dollars are car makers attempt to target specific demographics and buyer types.

Meanwhile Nissan is Twittering in a different direction, presumably to test different approaches, to try and increase awareness of its recently launched front-wheel drive DUALIS hatch.

The WotsInTheDualis Twitter profile provides followers with clues to mystery items that are hidden in the boot of the car, with prizes up for grabs for correct guesses.

Like the Micra campaign it also has an accompanying website, What'sInTheDualis?, which provides further clues. It will also be joined by a television commercial to increase awareness of the DUALIS hatch.
