For all those people who dreamed of becoming either a racing car driver or fire-fighter as children, but were torn between the two, then the answer is here. Nissan has presented the Nurburgring circuit in Germany with a specially modified GT-R for fire fighting.
The world's fastest fire engine is part of the track's rapid response crew and despite carrying an extra 200kg of equipment is still capable of lapping the 20km track in less than eight minutes.
The modifications have been carried out by German firm M&M Automotive and consists of a 50-litre water tank in place of the back seats. Also included is a medium-pressure extinguisher system and hose winding device. Nissan says the system is good enough to fight a fire for around two minutes at a distance of up to 20 metres.
With amateur drivers able to lap the daunting circuit most days of the year accidents are all too common. It is hoped by having such a rapid fire vehicle, instead of a bulky tanker will help save lives and reduce serious injuries.
