Nissan's safer SUVs

X-TRAIL and Dualis now available with Around View Monitor

Advanced camera-based technology has been introduced to Nissan's X-TRAIL and Dualis ranges, the importer has revealed.

Named Around View Monitor, the feature has been offered overseas in the Infiniti range and BMW offers their version of the system here, but this is the first time it has been offered in Australia at such an affordable entry point. Nissan is reserving AVM for the flagship variants in each range, the X-TRAIL Ti (petrol), TL (diesel) and Dualis Ti-L.

“Nissan prides itself on being able to introduce the latest technological and safety innovations into the volume market and Around View Monitor is the latest example of this,” said Nissan Australia CEO Bill Peffer.

The system depends on four high-resolution cameras fixed to the vehicle, with front and rear ultrasonic sonar devices all linked into one processing unit that can generate a virtual image from the inputs combined. According to Nissan, the birds-eye view eases parallel parking, by clearly showing the borders of the parking spot and the vehicle's spatial relation to them, as well as guttering at the kerb and vehicles parked close by. As a whole, the system is easy to understand, easy to use and easy to see, the company claims.
