No bull – Colorado retains five-star safety rating
Crew cab Colorado equipped with Holden bullbar remains five-star safeThe Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has given the green light to bullbar-equipped new-generation Colorado models by conferring a five-star safety rating – with two qualifiers: The rating applies to crew cab versions only and the bullbars must be genuine Holden accessories.
According to Holden’s Manager for Vehicle Structure & Safety Integration, Steve Curtis, “Colorado’s accessories were engineered and developed locally by Holden, and were fully tested to ensure the highest possible levels of functionality, integration and safety performance.
“The bullbar was subject to rigorous crash and impact tests to ensure that it meets or
exceeds Holden’s and Australia’s highest safety standards.”
The new Colorado was launched in June this year in Single Cab, Space Cab and Crew Cab form, with a safety roll call that includes Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), driver and front passenger airbags and full length curtain airbags.
It is powered by either a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel developing 132kW/470Nm (in six-speed auto form – the five-speed manual drops torque back to 440Nm) or a 110kW/350Nm 2.5-litre turbodiesel. The 2.8-litre has a claimed class-leading tow rating of 3.5 tonnes, while the manual transmission-only 2.5-litre is rated at 3.0 tonnes. Payloads range between one tonne and 1.4 tonnes.
