Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed there will be no major updates for the top-selling Model Y released this year following the recent Model 3 facelift.
The outspoken boss of the disruptive US EV-maker made the confirmation via his X social media platform, replying to a tweet by social media commentator CuriousPejjy about rumours of a facelift for the Model Y – Australia’s and Tesla’s top-selling EV – coming in July.
“No Model Y ‘refresh’ is coming out this year,” Musk said.
“I should note that Tesla continuously improves its cars, so even a car that is six months newer will be a little better.”

I should note that Tesla continuously improves its cars, so even a car that is 6 months newer will be a little better.
The news will likely dishearten Model Y fans eagerly looking forward to a major overhaul similar to the one applied last year to the Model 3 sedan, which yielded a new look, more range, upgraded interior and more safety tech as standard.
An update for the China-produced Model Y did follow closely behind the Model 3’s facelift last year, however, the tweaks largely focused on range and performance rather than a complete package refresh.
The updated Model Y is tipped to arrive Down Under by mid-2024, possibly with a record-low asking price based on recent fluctuations and the ever-increasing piles of unsold Tesla vehicles piling up around the country as local EV demand and incentives diminish.
Pricing for the Model Y currently starts from $55,900 and tops out at $82,900 (plus on-road costs), with all three locally-offered variants having expected delivery times of just one to three weeks.
It’s an identical story for the Model 3, albeit with prices ranging from $54,900-$80,900 plus ORCs.
Musk’s confirmation strongly suggests the major Model Y facelift will appear sometime in 2025, which should be something that Tesla fans look forward to given the improvements seen in the long-awaited Model 3 facelift.
