No foundation to T6 rumours
There may be money worries in Dearborn, but there's no hold-up in the local development of Ford's T6 LCV projectPresident of Ford Australia Bill Osborne says unequivocally that there are no problems with the current T6 light commercial vehicle development currently in progress.
Ford Australia has been tasked with developing the vehicle, which will be the replacement for the current Ranger and Mazda BT-50 models. Although Ford won't be manufacturing the T6-derived models (T6 is the vehicle's code name while it's under development), the engineering and design work carried out here, will carry throughout the world.
There have been rumours circulating that Ford, on the back of falling sales globally, and a pre-existing financial loss, would cut back the T6 development to free up funds for a new F-Series truck to cater to North American markets.
Osborne dismissed the rumours with a straightforward "Not true".
Chief Engineer for Falcon, David Wilkinson was present in the room at the time the question was asked and pointed out that for a program allegedly under threat, it was looking very healthy.
"We've got 450 engineers working on [T6]," says Wilkinson.
