After years of waiting and watching, the factory-fettled Hyundai i30 Sedan N TCR Edition will not be coming to Australia after all, with Hyundai’s local operation instead opting to offer most of the special edition’s upgrades individually as genuine accessories and N Performance parts.

Speaking to carsales at the media launch of the ballistic IONIQ 6 N, Hyundai Australia product planning and development manager Tim Rodgers said: “We made the decision not to bring the TCR Edition to Australia and factory orders are now closed.
“However, we will be making the individual parts available to purchase through our N Performance accessories range.”
Said parts include four-piston monobloc front brake calipers, an Alcantara steering wheel, gear lever/selector and handbrake, a cold air intake and forged 19-inch wheels.
Missing from the ensemble is the TCR Edition’s enormous, adjustable rear wing, however a subtler fixed carbon unit has been subbed in.

Rodgers went on to reveal that while the TCR wasn’t destined for our shores, a separate batch of special-edition N models is, the first of which will be landing this year.
“By the end of this year we’ll have one in-market for us, and we’ve got a couple more on the drawing board that we’re working on, but we’re lucky for our market, two of these cars are unique to us,” said Rodgers.
“So the special editions in theory are unique to Australia as well which is really, really cool for us.”
It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to deduce the “unique” models in question are the i20 N and i30 N hatches seeing as Australia’s the only major market they’re still offered in, with that especially true of the i30 which isn’t available anywhere else – New Zealand also gets the i20 (for now).
As for the sedan, Rodgers said: “We have some exciting news to announce in the near future regarding an i30 Sedan N Special Edition which is in the works.”
