No longer the Boss

It's now clear that for the time being at least, FPV's future hinges heavily on the turbo six

Did they fall or were they pushed?

Barely two hours after the Carsales Network revealed the power output for the FG model GT, FPV has made it official. The Boss 315 V8 will offer 315kW of power at 6500rpm and 551Nm of torque at 4750rpm.

Furthermore, FPV has also announced power and torque figures for the F6 models, with their tweaked and turbocharged 4.0-litre six. Peak power is 310kW at 5500rpm and maximum torque of 565Nm is available between 1950 and 5200rpm.

FPV has raised the F6 engine's power peak by 40kW through increasing the boost. To handle the extra pressure, the pistons have been strengthened. A larger intercooler has been specified, offering better airflow through the induction system.

The results leave the turbo engine with more torque than the naturally-aspirated V8 and almost as much power.

FPV has re-tuned the V8 for improved torque at lower speeds also, although the results are not in the same league as those for the F6 engine.

"With the new Boss 315, our engineers broadened the torque curve, which consequently delivers better pick and drive at a lower rev range, as well as better get up and go from a standing start," said Rod Barrett, General Manager, Ford Performance Vehicles.

"As a result, the V8 powered cars feel lighter and more responsive."

FPV will offer the turbo six in the F6 and F6 Ute, with the Boss 315 fitted to the GT E, GT-P and GT sedans, as well as the Pursuit and Super Pursuit Utes. The announcement from FPV makes no mention of a premium V8, but further details will be revealed closer to the new models' on-sale date in June.
