The 2025 Toyota GR86 sports car has started gracing local showrooms with a raft of subtle refinements and a new limited-edition flagship.
Priced from $49,600 plus on-road costs, the originally named GR86 Limited Edition is based on the top-spec GTS but bundles in the optional Dynamic Performance Package (ZF Sach dampers, Brembo brakes) as standard and is exclusively available in a unique ‘Forest Shadow’ exterior finish.
Bronze 18-inch alloy wheels and two-tone black and tan upholstery round out the limited-run ensemble that’s being capped at just 86 units.
As for the standard models, both the base GT and plusher GTS have retained their current $43,240 and $45,390 starting prices but have been treated to retuned shock absorbers and electric power steering, a more aggressive TCU mapping for the optional six-speed automatic and a more aggressive throttle mapping.
All of these updates have been done to make the GR86 more responsive both in the bends and in a straight line, however no physical changes have been made to the 174kW/250Nm 2.4-litre flat four-cylinder petrol engine fitted to all variants.
They also follow on from the (manual) GR86’s adoption of autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and automatic high-beam last year – a critical update required to keep the coupe ADR-compliant and make it eligible for a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
