Toyota's specially modified HiLux that conquered the North Pole in a popular BBC television show will be on display at this year's Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) in Sydney this October.
After proving its unbreakability in a gruelling run to the top of the world, and again conquering an extreme drive to the heart of Iceland's devastating Eyjafjallajökull volcano earlier this year, the go-anywhere HiLux is bound to be the centre of attention at the Toyota stand.
Covering 360-nautical miles in its trek to the Magnetic North Pole, the dual-cab 3.0-litre turbo-diesel HiLux faced temperatures as low as minus 36-degrees Celsius, encountering many challenges in the extreme terrain including hidden blocks of ice that transmitted huge shocks through the suspension and body.
Clarkson's expedition also featured two other specially modified Toyotas – another HiLux and a LandCruiser, used to transport the film crew and their equipment.
Earlier this year the Tonka-tough HiLux was again called to action, this time for scientific purposes ferrying scientists and their monitoring equipment to the peak on Iceland's Eyjafjallajökull volcano.
The volcano that stopped air traffic across the globe for weeks with a vast cloud of ash was no match for the HiLux which, riding on giant low-pressure 38-inch tyres, raced the team of volcanologists to the fiery heart of the volcano just hours before the long-dormant mountain blew its top.
The Australian International Motor Show runs from October 15-24. Tickets are available online now.
