Don't expect to see this prowling the suburban streets of Sydney late at night.
Despite the familiar police livery, this Lexus RC F coupe is destined not for regular policing or highway patrol work, but as a presence in roadside road safety campaigns and as a static display at community activities.
Its only appearance in motorsport is likely to be when it shows up at events such as the Easter Bathurst six-hour race where it will operate as a race control car, opening and closing the circuit before and after races.
The Lexus will join NSW Police's Wollongong-based Southern region where it will be given maximum exposure.
Lexus Australia chief executive Peter McGregor said the RC F will help police in sending out a safety message. He said it will "assist them with their important task of promoting safety on our roads – a critical issue for all road users as we enter the Easter Period and colder months of the year".
Inspector Jim Fryday (pictured) of NSW Police's Southern Region said the Lexus will be put to good use.
"The RC F will be a major help in our efforts to engage with the public at major gatherings around the state.
"There will be further opportunities at motorsport events to communicate our message to race fans while showing off the RC F in a very appropriate setting," he said.
