This year’s Melbourne International Motor Show might be cancelled but a mini version of sorts, albeit with an off-road flavour, will be held for the first time at next month’s National 4x4 & Outdoors Show in Melbourne.
Normally a showcase for the latest and greatest 4WD accessories and equipment, for the first time the outdoors expo at the Melbourne Showgrounds will feature a dedicated Automotive Pavilion with manufacturers including Holden, Suzuki, Nissan and Isuzu UTE Australia, locked in to exhibit their latest 4x4 vehicles.
Also at the undercover Fishing Pavilion, Fiat Chrysler will display its range of off-roaders including the 2014 Grand Cherokee, Wrangler and Patriot, as well as a selection of Fiat Ducato-based campervans.
According to 4x4 Show Manager Paul Morgan the popular annual event “received a surge of interest this year from automotive manufacturers looking for a new avenue to showcase their latest vehicles to consumers”.
"With around 35,000 people expected to stream through the gates over the three days, the show presents a unique opportunity to manufacturers to directly target a passionate subset of the Australian population - outdoor enthusiasts,” he said.
As well as bog-standard versions of its all-new Colorado 7 4x4 wagon, Holden will show off 4WD TV Simon Christie’s own Colorado 7, fully kitted outed in 4x4 accessories from leading brands including ARB, Mickey Thompson, Narva and Safari.
Suzuki will promote its latest range of Grand Vitara SUVs, as well as products from its Marine and Motorcycles divisions including dirt bikes and ATVs.
Another first will be the Isuzu UTE's new Team D-MAX precision driving team making its maiden appearance in Melbourne. Visitors will also get the chance to take a two-wheel ride with the team and see the world from a different angle.
Test rides of many of the 4x4 models on display will also be available in the Action Arena, where experienced instructors will be on hand to guide visitors around the tricky off-road dirt course.
Running from August 23-25 and incorporating the Fishing & Boating Expo, this year’s National 4x4 & Outdoors Show will also feature more than 100 dedicated 4WD aftermarket exhibitors. For more information visit the 4x4 Show website.
