Old Triton to continue until August

Mitsubishi will sell outgoing Triton alongside new model until stock runs out

Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) told press gathered at the launch of the new-generation Triton that the current model will continue to be sold until such time as stock runs out.

The importer says the MN-series Triton is still in plentiful supply, but stresses that competitive drive-away pricing will see current stock levels exhausted by "July or August".

MMAL product manager Owen Thomson stressed that the scenario would not create an on-going parallel sales situation like that demonstrated by Nissan, which sold previous generation D22-series Navaras alongside the current-gen D40 throughout the model's lifetime.

"We can confirm that [sales of both MN and MQ series Tritons] will be happening [simultaneously as] there will be stock of the outgoing model in dealerships for the foreseeable future," Thomson explained.

Thomson went on to explain that the difference in price – and ANCAP safety rating – would effectively give trade and recreational buyers a point of differentiation, with run-out models priced from as low as $20,990.

The fifth-generation, which has launched in Australia this week, is now priced from $24,490 for the turbo-diesel single cab-chassis. It will be joined by a cheaper 2.4-litre petrol variant later in the year.
